Desert FI exists for people at every stage of the financial independence journey, but we have a particular focus on what comes after the number. Not retirement as an escape, but retirement as a beginning. We call it FINE: Financial Independence, Next Endeavor.
FINE is the idea that a modest, meaningful, flexible income during the first decade of retirement can change the math permanently, reduce sequence of returns risk, and give the second half of life structure and purpose that pure retirement often does not. It is not a second career. It is not going back to work. It is using what you have spent decades building, on your own terms, for as long as you want to.
